Still the King of Pop Parody

In case there was any question, Weird Al is still the king of pop music parody.

One thing to note: The song “Baby Likes Burping” is most definitely NOT a parody of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby’s Got Back”. It’s a parody of The Knack’s “Baby Talks Dirty” and was a follow up to the hit parody “My Bologna”.

AlAnon style

For gits and shiggles, I created a new blog style called AlAnon. I needed something to get me back into web designing again. Although for some reason, I can’t seem to shake this feeling of déjà vu.

Redneck Stomp

From CMT’s 20 funniest videos, the #1 spot went to Jeff Foxworthy’s “Redneck Stomp” directed by Weird Al. The first video he directed which wasn’t one of his own. Nifty!

Two newspaper articles from Oregon

Two good articles for Al’s upcoming shows.

Performance Preview: Weirdness comes naturally by Mark Baker of “The Register-Guard”

‘Weird Al’ polkas into Oregon by John Ginn of “Corvallis Gazette-Times”

IMPORT NOTE for Oregonians attending the Eugene concert: As both articles state, the venue has been changed from its original location at Cuthbert Amphitheater to McDonald Theater. Make sure to show up at the right place. I wouldn’t want you to miss the show!

Quodlibet

Every now and then, I come across an interesting word and want to shout it out to the world. Instead, I’ll talk about it here and maybe it’ll get seen by at least 2 other people.

Today’s Merriam-Webster Word of the Day is quodlibet, which means one of two things:

  1. A philosophical and intellectually stimulating debate
  2. A whimsical medley of familiar tunes or texts

I find myself intrigued by this word because it seems to stand for two completely unrelated things. As any fan of Weird Al knows, almost every album contains one polka quodlibet that would make even a man of stone crack a smile. So the next time someone asks you if you know anybody who could provide a fascinating theological or philosophical issue for the next powwow around the water cooler, you can exclaim “Weird Al is the king of quodlibets!” Then hightail it outta there, with a perplexed look permanently fixated on your friend’s face.

Ha! Bet you didn’t expect to learn anything from this blog, did ya?!?

Hey Ya(nkovic)!

And of course, the biggest news to hit the headlines recently… the one that will shock the foundation of civilization as we know it… is that, according to PETA’s online poll, Andre 3000 of OutKast and actress Alicia Silverstone were voted “World’s Sexiest Vegetarians”. Thus beating out other sexy celebrities like sexy Noah Wyle, Pamela “Sexy” Anderson, Kim Bas-sexy-singer, Moby-boby-bo-sexy, and, as the women like to call him, “Sexy Al” Yankovic. This sexy report has been your sexy headline sexy news for sexy today. SEXY!
