Stealing towels at hotels? How about CDs?

This site, Engadget.com, is usually about the latest technologies and gadgets. In this post, it talks about being provided with two unsealed
CDs along with a scented candle during a recent hotel stay. If you like the CDs and take them with you, its $30. The site basically asks what would YOU do if you really liked them, but didn’t want to pay. Would you rip them to your laptop and go along your merry way?

Hey waitaminute! Those are Stephen Jay’s CDs in the picture (aka Bass Guitarist for Weird Al) ! Specifically, they’re the Tangled Strings and Self Avoiding Random Walk
albums. You know’ you could also order them directly from Steve Jay’s
site at the cheaper price of $12 each, and that includes shipping.

I guess it’s pretty neat that the hotel is also helping selling the albums.

What the? Is that a smiley face in the water glass? How eerie.

Hanging out with Al

Hanging out with Al Yankovic

A really great behind-the-scenes, inside-the-tour-bus, just-to-the-left-of-the-produce-section interview with Al when he played at the Six Flags in St. Louis last weekend. Find out how they don’t decorate their bus, what’s on his iPod right this very second, and what color are his eyes. Here’s a hint… they’re brown. D’oh!

Ribbing: For Your Pleasure

Two articles show up in Cincinnati.com’s The Enquirer in anticipation of the August 22 concert in Ohio:

Weird Al can’t stop the ribbing

Pop music is something that I think should be fun and not taken terribly seriously.

And then immediately following that, the Enquirer asks local acts what songs would they like to have parodied by Al. Perhaps one day, young rockers… perhaps one day.

Local/National TV Appearance

As Al’s bus goes careening out of control across this land bringing his Poodle Hat tour to a town sorta near you, he’ll be stopping by Merrilville, Indiana on Friday. That just happens to be sorta close to Chicago, where he will be making a morning appearance on the WGN Morning News. Oh but the lucky folks who live near Chicago aren’t the only ones who get to see Al on TV. WGN is a SuperStation, meaning it’s picked up on most cable and sattelite systems. So assuming you’re not technologicially impaired, you can setup your Tivo, or VCR (if you’re into that 90s technology) to record Al’s appearance. He’s been with this morning crew in the past and usually, it’s a good time. The news runs from 7AM-9AM Central Daylight Time, so do your own math. This means you, Indiana!

An Evening Well Spent

Weird Al’s show ‘an evening well spent’ - A great concert review and an even greater picture of Al at the end.

The beginning of the concert wasn’t without the token potshots toward South Dakota and Rapid City, however. They included comments such as “Mount Rushmore — you know, Washington, Lincoln… Elvis and the other guy”…

Parodies Still Thrill Al

Better late than never… just found an interview from the Mercury News promoting the August 8th show in Santa Clara.

I think the ironic thing is that I’m one of the more normal people living in Hollywood and working in the music industry.

One correction: Al has won THREE Grammys, the most recent one being for Best Comedy Album this year for Poodle Hat.
