SEPTEMBER DESKTOP CALENDAR
Well, summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean your desktop can’t look hot with this stylish wallpaper from Al-oholics Anonymous! Aron Shay designed this month’s calendar with a photo from the “Weird Al” Live! DVD featuring the Running With Scissors tour. Don’t worry! No band members were harmed in the making of this wallpaper! Do you have wallpaper ideas trying to break out? Make a calendar wallpaper of your own and send it in for the monthly contest.
Another Cameo
Apparently while Al’s waiting for the next big pop culture phenomenon to come along, he’s keeping himself busy with little odds and ends. There was that Ben Folds thing which lead to him being on Leno, and then he’s done some voice work for “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy”, and don’t forget last week’s surprise appearance on “Attack of the show”, but now he has a cameo part in a small independent film Treatise of Human Nature. This review doesn’t give much insight as to what he’s doing, but it does sound interesting. If you can find it, check it out.

Al Launches Surprise Attack on the Show
On G4’s hard hitting show, Attack of the Show, “Weird Al” made a surprise appearance yesterday. Well, it probably wasn’t a surprise to him or the folks on the show, but certainly a lot of fans, hopefully like you, missed it. He was on talking with Spike of Spike & Mike’s Sick and Twisted Film Festival, and then took some time to answer some questions for callers. We learned that he’s got six songs completed for the new album and right now is “at the mercy of pop culture” waiting for the next big thing to come along. Psst, hey Al. We think the emerging trend of sending instant messages to dolphins is gonna be REALLY hot. Keep an eye on it. Oh, if you want to see Al’s appearance on Attack of the show you have three options. First, check out the video clips on the AOTS website. Second, you could catch the re-run of the show on Sunday the 28th at 3AM ET (check local listings). Finally, you could let some Jamie Farr looking aliens abduct you and take you back in time so you can watch it…oh and pay your phone bill on time.

Al and Ben on Tonight Show
This just in from WeirdAl.com:
AL ON LENO!
Al’s pal Ben Folds just asked him to play tambourine for him on the Tonight show - tonight! (Aug 19)
Ben Folds Quote
From the Mercury News, the article “Ben Folds One enters his latest phase” delves into Ben Folds’ latest album, Songs for Silverman:
In a collaboration reminiscent of Folds’ work as producer and co-writer for William Shatner’s disc “Has Been” (2004), “Weird” Al Yankovic sings background vocals on “Time.” Folds was going to take Yankovic to lunch, he says, but instead asked him to help on a song he was recording. And just as Shatner’s album wasn’t exactly the joke you might have expected, Yankovic’s voice — well, it just works.
“There’s a little bit of that ’80s period thing going on with the background vocals, and Al understands that real well,” says Folds, who insists he’s a huge fan of Yankovic, whom he considers a serious artist. “He sounds very sincere when he’s singing in that mode, because that was sort of his era.”
