AL IN THE STUDIO!
Al has finished recording and mixing the first six songs for his new album, and he’ll be back in the studio in late February to record three more.

Woohoo! It’s so close to being done, can’t ya just SMELL it?!?

There are some new pictures of Al hanging out with Coolio and 11 new fan arts over at the gallery on weirdal.com. Cool!

The Ak in Ak + Zuie is celebrating his birthday today. Very happy birthday wishes to Steve Jay!

AL GOES GOLD AND PLATINUM!
The Food Album is officially the first of Al’s cheesy compilation albums to go Gold in the U.S.! (What, Greatest Hits I + II not good enough for you?) Also, Off The Deep End is now officially Platinum (we kinda thought it was already, but now it’s official!)

Also, not mentioned, Greatest Hits Volume II went Gold in Canada.

Hello all you faithful readers! And now for a little history lesson… In previous versions of Weird Al’s “Even Worse” CD, the album contained a booklet filled with lyrics and wacky pictures of Al. Sadly, the later CDs printed now only contains the first and last pages on one sheet. Here, in all its amazing glory, are the full liner notes and photos for you to enjoy. Found a couple more references to Al being at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show on the ‘net lately, so I figure I’d post about it here.

I was listening to the Diggnation podcast and on their most recent episode, about 3 minutes into it, one of them mentions seeing Weird Al on the flight in. No real earth-shattering news or anything, but here’s a rough transcript on the matter…

A = Alex Albrecht
K = Kevin Rose

A: Weird Al was on my flight!
K: No way!
A: Yeah! Weird Al Yankovic!
K: Did you talk to him?
A: No, he’s a little weird. *laugh* Seriously he’s, like, an odd human being. He was sitting in coach, so at first I was like “Nah, it’s just some crazy guy with long hair.” You know what I mean? ‘Cause it was like “He’s not sitting in coach!”
K: Well dude, how much money has he made recently?
A: *pause* He’s got to have invest[ed], he’s smart. Seems it. I dunno.
K: Yeah, well he IS a smart guy. I like that “It’s All About the Pentiums Baby” song.
A: Aw dude, that was awesome! Aww!!! Then I saw him with some guy with an XM radio sign and he was talking with him, so I was like “Yeah, that was Weird Al” ’cause he’s probably doing something for XM.
K: Yeah that’s interesting.

So yeah, that’s about it. I say we should form a “Help Weird Al Into First Class” foundation. Do you see what illegal music downloading has done to Al?!? He’s forced to fly COACH. Oh, the humanity!

The other thing I found recently are some pictures of Al at the XM booth for the previous year. They’re a little dark, but it was new to me. Here ya go: Enjoy these pics

AL… ON THE SIMPSONS… ON DVD!
If you thought you’d have to wait several years for Fox to release the Simpsons’ 14th Season box set before you’d have your very own copy of the Emmy-winning episode featuring Al on DVD, think again… On February 7, they will be releasing a single-disk compilation called “Kiss and Tell” … and Al’s episode is on it!

This year just keeps getting better and better with each day.

Chalk this up to another thing I never expected to see in a million years… Al and Coolio being chums together. (Three more pics can be found by clicking on the image.) Unfortunately, I have no details as to the story behind these pics, when they were taken, or anything just yet. But from what I can deduce, it is apparent that Al and Coolio are best buds once again. Some might remember a small riff between these two way back, but all that is finally in the past. So now you can go ahead and take Coolio off your “grumble” list and add him back to your “super awesome” list. I said DO IT!

Update: Krazy Kyle says in the Weird Al forum that these pics were from the XM Satellite booth at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Friday.
