Weird Al has graciously provided answers to some questions that have plagued us for millenniums. What was the deal with that huge 27? Why did the box set go out of print? Which will get Al more of a profit: buying the CD or going through iTunes? (excellent question) And what was up with the whole Coolio incident?

For answers to these, check out the Ask Al section.

This perplexing update showed up on weirdal.com today. What could it mean?

Al has finished recording and mixing eleven songs for his new album. Does this mean the album is done? Honestly, we have no idea. We’ll let you know as soon as we figure it out.

10,000

Weird Al Star Fund has hit the big $10,000 milestone! To be exact, we’ve raised $10,008.83 of the $15,000 fee needed to sponsor Al’s star. We’re over 2/3 of the way to our goal! For that, you should all be proud of yourselves — that’s no small feat!

The deadline for this year’s application is May 31. That’s just under 6 weeks away. If you or anyone you know is waiting for “the right time” to make a donation, this is it! This is the right time! If we can raise the difference by May 31, we can submit the application this year!

Bill Plympton

Bill Plympton It looks like we have another famous animator working with Weird Al according to the StatesmanJournal in Salem, Oregon. Bill Plympton, who’s widely known for his surrealistic style and recently animated a video for Kanye West’s Heard ‘Em Say, mentions that there will be a music video coming up in the summer. Unfortunately he doesn’t provide any more details, so we’ll just have to keep our eyes open. In the meantime, if you’re unfamiliar with his previous works, you can check out his gallery at Plymptoons.com and also at Bill Plympton On-Line!

Benefit show raises $561 for the Weird Al Star Fund!

WHEE!! What a fun show!! Big-ups to Joe and all the performers on great performances! And the Al cover songs were all awesome. “Dare To Be Stupid” performed by everybody was the perfect way to end the show!

Many thanks to Joe for all his efforts on behalf of the Weird Al Star Fund! He did such a fabulous job talking up our project from the stage, so anyone who hadn’t heard about it before got an excellent description of our mission, why Al is so deserving, and why we want this Walk of Fame Star to come from the fans, which is how we think ALL celebrities should receive their stars!

The amount raised that night was $344 in cover charges, $24 in merch sales, and $193 in straight cash donations to the fund, for a total of $561–not bad for a night’s work, eh?

That makes the total amount in the Weird Al Star Fund $9,713.12. Thanks to everybody for their support!

There are pictures from the big show posted at weirdalstar.com now. We have autographed posters available on a first come basis for $8.00 each, plus $4.00 shipping, no matter how many you order. There’s a limited edition of only 27 — and I’ll tell you, of those, 10 are already reserved or purchased. Once they sell out, that’s it. To reserve your poster, send mail to merchandise@weirdalstar.com.

The posters look like this, except autographed by all the performers (Joe Lavelle, Ray Don, Evan Wecksell, Hard ‘n Phirm, Raymond and Scum, and Throwing Toasters).

Again, thanks to everyone who came out and all the performers, it was tons of fun!

John Kricfalusi

Found a small mention of Al in this Ottawa Sun article on John Kricfalusi (creator of Ren and Stimpy):

Kricfalusi, who had assembled a crack team at his Spumco International offices to revisit the Nickelodeon cartoon, left Ottawa for Los Angeles. He’s currently there working on an animated video for Weird Al Yankovic, who is coming out with a double disc.

“It’s for an original song,” he explains. “It’s not a parody.”

Ah yes, the clues are all starting to fall haphazardly around us.

Mysterious 27

27 If you visit The Official Weird Al Page today, you’ll notice a gigantic and ominous looking 27 staring you down before being redirected to the normal page. What could this possibly mean? Are we THAT close to the new album? Maybe the launch of a new music video? A belated April Fool’s Day prank? How many times you need to spin around after eating a huge meal before throwing up? It may be too soon to tell, but rest assured that the Yank Blog Hyper Quantum Mega Research Institute has got all their top scientists working ’round the clock trying to unravel the mystery of this numerical puzzle. None of them shall be allowed to sleep or even see their loved ones at home until one of them comes up with the right answer.

Update
Twenty four hours later, the giant 27 disappears just as mysteriously as it had shown up.  What could it all mean?  Aliens?  Government conspiracies?  One thing is for certain, the webmaster ( drummer Jon Bermuda Schwartz ) sure does like to mess with our heads.
