Mysterious 27
If you visit The Official Weird Al Page today, you’ll notice a gigantic and ominous looking 27 staring you down before being redirected to the normal page. What could this possibly mean? Are we THAT close to the new album? Maybe the launch of a new music video? A belated April Fool’s Day prank? How many times you need to spin around after eating a huge meal before throwing up? It may be too soon to tell, but rest assured that the Yank Blog Hyper Quantum Mega Research Institute has got all their top scientists working ’round the clock trying to unravel the mystery of this numerical puzzle. None of them shall be allowed to sleep or even see their loved ones at home until one of them comes up with the right answer.
Update
Twenty four hours later, the giant 27 disappears just as mysteriously as it had shown up. What could it all mean? Aliens? Government conspiracies? One thing is for certain, the webmaster ( drummer Jon Bermuda Schwartz ) sure does like to mess with our heads.

nope. If you view the source of the page (before redirect), it is very well put together and has similar look htm wise as the main page.
Besides, the image is hosted on weirdal.com/images/27.gif

I know exactly what it means. It’s not the number, it’s a date.
2/7 - February 7th. Because no year is specified, we can only assume that it means 2006. That means that the album has already been released and we were just too busy looking for spoilers to notice it. Silly us.

The fan obsession with the number 27 in reference to Al began as a series of coincidences that have escalated into a sort of game for fans and a secret “hello” from Al. It all started when a fan asked Al in the Midnight Star if there was any significance to the number, which had been spotted in both the “Like A Surgeon” and “This Is The Life” videos. Al’s response was a sort of “I dunno- it’s just a funny number” (loose interpretation). From then on, fans began to notice 27’s EVERYwhere! In songs, other videos, concert dates, even the serial numbers of Al-bums!

Al does use the number 27 a lot. On Running With Scissors, the number on his shirt is 27, I believe. According to wiki, there are 27 pics on his Live! DVD.
Then again, maybe there is only 27 days until the album release, but I kinda doubt it. Well, he does have a habit of releasing albums in early summer or late spring, but without any notice? Hmm.

Maybe if we’re lucky, 27 is the amount of songs on the next album. Or maybe the amount of venues that have already agreed to have Al perform for the next tour.

Here’s a shot at it…
Albums are released on tuesdays, I believe exclusively.
The next tuesday the 27th is… June 27th. And the next tuesday the 27th doesn’t occur until at least 2007.
So if it has anything to do with the album release date, I’d say we’re looking at a new Al-bum at the end of June.

and it will have 27 songs on it!!!

27 days from the 1st apearence is may 4th…maybe it means 27 weeks, meaning sometime in october…or maybe it has no meaning at alll….who knows

Except May 4th isn’t a tuesday, so the album can’t be released that day.
