Weird Al overlooked for 2007 nominees :(
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the 2007 nominees today, and unfortunately Al’s name wasn’t on the list.
I am disappointed that the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce overlooked Al’s accomplishments this year. There is no doubt in my mind that Al deserves a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. Anyone who will take a moment to get to know Al as a person and as a musician will see that. The impact he made on music for the past three decades is clearly remarkable.
Al did have some tough competition in his category, and it is hard to argue that the musicians selected don’t deserve a star as well. So I extend my sincerest congratulations to everyone who was selected this year.
As for the Weird Al Star Fund, Al’s application automatically carries over to next year. Before next year’s meeting, we’ll be given an opportunity to update the application for Al’s 2006 projects. Hopefully next year at this time I’ll have happier news to share with everyone.
The complete list of 2007 Walk of Fame recipients, as ratified by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce board of directors is as follows:
— Recording: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Mariah Carey, The Doors, Crystal Gayle, Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain.
— Motion pictures: Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Lauren Shuler Donner, Jamie Foxx, John Goodman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Altman.
— Television: Barbara Walters, Erik Estrada, Kiefer Sutherland, Jerry Stiller, Dick Wolff.
— Live theater/performance: Sir Tim Rice, Lily Tomlin.
— Radio: Rodney Bingenheimer, Stu Nahan.

I’m very disipointed about this news. I don’t even know any of them…except Shania, she’s Canadian:)…but everyone should keep their heads up. Everyone who donated money toward the Weird Al Star fund, and made it all possible deserves a round of applause. We made it possible, and it will happen. The won’t keep out for another year. 2008 is looing GREAT.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Pitiful. Just pitiful.

Very pitiful…
Al’s name should be on this list…
I guess I thought the Chamber was smart enough to nominate Al.
Apparantly they are NOT.
They will have a chance next year to redeem themselves… But they will probably fail then too.

Sorry……….we must remain positive for next year!!! We know Al deserves this. We will not give up.

Godzilla has a freakin’ star!
A Man, you’ve never heard of The Doors?

They should continue selling stuff on the weird al star fund page… they had some pretty neat merchandise. Perhaps it could turn into a fan based merchandise place with proceeds going towards a charity of Al’s choice.
Just a thought…

NO! NO! If Ryan Seacrest has a star on the walk of fame, how can Al be overlooked? I don’t understand the reasoning behind this. Seacrest isn’t even a pebble in Al’s shoes, and he has a star?? I am herby calling a investigation into the star selection process! I guess the main thing i’m trying to say here is I HATE SAUREKRAUT!

I say if Al doesn’t get a star soon, we just rip up the entire Walk of Fame and start over again. These people don’t even seem to know what fame is. I ask you is there anyone left on the planet that doesn’t know who Weird Al is?
June 26th, 2006 at 09:53 am
Well, trying to ‘rip’ up the entire Walk of Fame is a little drastic, don’t you think? (Let alone really hard to do without a bulldozer…)
I say, keep fundraising weirdalstar.com and just wait and see…
I don’t know what the requirements is for the selection, and I don’t know how many times the application carry overs, but if it took 5 years to raise the first $15,000, if the committe is going to be greedy pigs and not grant Al a star, we should start raising the next amount of money so that Al will (eventually) get the star he deserves…
Don’t give up hope! Al could still get a star next year! That is the only positive way I can look at this…
June 26th, 2006 at 01:12 pm
I think the $15,000 is only used after the person is accepted, right? It goes towards removing a blank star, installing the new one, security, publicity, maintenance, and repairs.

Well, yes, I’ve heard of The Doors, and others, just I don’t like any of them. It’s a shame, I think Al’s name should be on that list, but as I said, we should remain positive. He will be on there one day in the near future

Heh, Shania Twain is nothing more than a pop artist. And dont even get me started on Puff Daddy.
June 30th, 2006 at 06:27 pm
Puff Daddy really, really sucks. He thinks he’s cool, but he’s a faggot. I saw this music video one time, and he was doing the crip walk. He’s not a crip. Yeeeeah…
