August 22nd, 2006 at 01:08 pm
Premiere usually means the entire thing. Especially on Yahoo!
August 22nd, 2006 at 01:24 pm
I thought it was on Wed the 23rd? The Yahoo page says so…or, nevermind. I guess at Midnight Texas time it works…I think…

August 22nd, 2006 at 08:31 pm
This is insane. It’s 9:30 right now!! But still 3 and a half hours to go. The disadvantages of being in the Eastern Time Zone. I can stay up till 2. It’s for Al!! I Can’t Wait!!!

August 22nd, 2006 at 11:11 pm
The video is pretty different compared to what I’m used to seeing from Weird Al, but very good. Plympton did a great job, as always!
August 22nd, 2006 at 11:24 pm
Yahoo!!! Pretty trippy video.
August 22nd, 2006 at 11:43 pm
What sucks is that us Mac users are completely shut out from seeing this awesome premiere… Way to be on the ball, Yahoo…
August 23rd, 2006 at 06:39 am
Eric, I agree with you. I’m not sure if it’s the video that will end up on the DVD side of the DualDisc, but it’s still pretty funny!
August 23rd, 2006 at 06:47 am
Hmmm…cartoons. I’m liking the new direction…
August 23rd, 2006 at 07:52 am
I want to preface this by saying I’m a HUGE Al fan, but that video was awful. I am very glad I did not stay up to see the premiere at 1AM last night. I expect better.
August 23rd, 2006 at 10:25 am
Hey, i’m a huge al-oholic myself. but i was tired so i missed the premiere. but i did just watch it now and it was absolutely AWESOME!!!! it just makes me wanna wait for his new cd even more. cause i don’t wanna illegally download it and burn my own copy and go to hell where i belong.
August 23rd, 2006 at 10:53 am
cartoons? I hope it works out…, it might me a bad career move, or a good one, depending on how people react to it. I personally think he should have done REAL music videos, but that’s just me.
August 23rd, 2006 at 11:40 am
I like the cartoon thing for the originals…but I really wonder about premiering a cartoon and not an actual video…it seems like a real video might draw in more non rabid fans to me.
But again…I’m just me.
August 23rd, 2006 at 01:20 pm
I agree SOMEWHAT with poster Jon. I actually expected more from Bill Plympton. There were a few shots that screamed his name, but for the most part I was disappointed; my original thinking was that the video would be continually funny with his great animation tricks and really Plymped out.
I am sorry I just coined that phrase. I did not mean to have that work out as perfect as it did.
August 23rd, 2006 at 02:12 pm
there is like a page error and it wont work…stupid me having to go to school. lol
August 23rd, 2006 at 02:33 pm
Hmm, I thought a more kick-ass video would kick off the album, its ok, but not the best (like a surgeon)
August 23rd, 2006 at 04:04 pm
im a huge huge fan of al. i have all of the cds videos and merchandise and what not. but in my opinion this is like the worst video ever. maybe i jsut set my expectations to high or something but it just was boring and wasnt entertaining.
August 23rd, 2006 at 04:25 pm
OMG!!!! WHAT A LET DOWN!!!!!!! Al Why??? i thought he could have come up with anything better than this. Glad I didn’t stay home.
SOrRY al,
August 23rd, 2006 at 06:29 pm
oh nvm…my computer just hates me. lol
August 23rd, 2006 at 11:09 pm
Wow…that was not good. Really not entertaining at all.
August 24th, 2006 at 09:44 am
Okay…..[pretending to be in a Weird Al board meeting]: All for saying this is Al’s semi-WORST video ever, type “Aye!”
August 24th, 2006 at 11:37 am
(everyone at the board meeting): “AYE!!”
August 24th, 2006 at 12:52 pm
Now come on. Is that really necessary?
August 24th, 2006 at 06:07 pm
Well, it wasn’t as bad as “Bob”…..
August 24th, 2006 at 07:36 pm
I don’t think it’s really bad. I just thought Plympton’s work in it would be more…well…you know
August 25th, 2006 at 08:21 am
Sorry haapysteve but Al always use the power of his videos, thats why he is famous, without them, it is not the same. Even Al took a whole new direction (I admired his guts for that) and focus onto the subject instead of Al, it’s not the same. The video is ok, but it seems like it was made by a grade 7 student using AMV (anime music video) you see on youtube. Al isnt target audience 10 and under is he? And that is why I put this video near the bottom of my least favorites.
August 25th, 2006 at 01:29 pm
This ISN’T an all-new direction for Al at all; does no-one remember the stop-motion animated video for Jurassic Park? That said, at least in JP’s case the video suited the music/lyrics. While thestoryboards follow the words rather well here, the anthemic tones of the video just don’t mesh with the pencil doodles that Mr Plympton must have drawn with both eyes closed and his pencil rammed up his backside.
Good song, shame about the video concept, REAL shame about the shoddy animation work.
August 25th, 2006 at 02:31 pm
Jurrasic park is better because it’s done really well. Its clay-mation.
August 25th, 2006 at 02:41 pm
Adding: Also Bob maybe crap but remember AL DOESN’T HAVE A VIDEO FOR POODLE HAT BECUASE OF THAT FAG EMINEM THEREFORE HE HAD USED AN ALTV CLIP TO SOMEHOW PROMOTE POODLE HAT. Understand? Don’t mean to scream with caps but I hate people knocking Bob, what can Al do? He didn’t had time to make a video. Now Al is generous enough to do 6 to promote SOL and make up for the lack of videos on Poodle hat.
August 25th, 2006 at 03:06 pm
I have to say that the music video for “Don’t Download This Song” was a big let down! I was expecting so much more, I mean the song was great! But lets not say that Al has let us down! I mean there’s still 5 more videos and not to Mention he’s filiming One for “White and Nerdy” and I’m sure that one will be the Weird AL Music Video that will over power them all! Great Song! Bad Music Video!
August 26th, 2006 at 12:29 am
Okay that video wasn’t that great but there are going to be six videos… for ONE album. What more do you people want from him? He didn’t have to make a video or an album or anything. He’s already rich enough. He’s doing it all for his fans (you). Shame on you.
August 26th, 2006 at 08:57 am
Hey, you’re right, thanks Al!
August 26th, 2006 at 03:52 pm
I agree with Katherine. There are too many critics in the world..like me. I think that it was an ok video, but a little out of sync with the song. That’s all I have to say about it. It is most certainly not the worst video in the world. I mean it could have semi-naked girls in it, or just stick men, or even…BLOBS. I like it though, and can’t wait to see the others on the album.
August 26th, 2006 at 08:58 pm
Thank you.
August 28th, 2006 at 07:49 am
In response to Katherine’s post a little earlier. I am a big Al fan, and I do appreciate all he has done and is doing for the fans. But I don’t believe that Al is above some constructive criticism and negative feedback if a fan doesn’t like something. I didn’t like the video. I wanted to express my opinion that I thought it was actually quite poor. Doesn’t make me any less of an Al fan.
August 28th, 2006 at 04:36 pm
i agree with Katherine. Happy Steve, you are right; I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I mean, it’s OK, sure, I was just expecting a little more from this GENIUS… but then again since the video wasn’t actually DONE BY HIM, we all need to bow down to Al for writing such an excellent song! He really did his reaserch, y’know? {i.e., RIAA, LimeWire, etc.}
August 31st, 2006 at 02:28 am
I think the big issue with the video, at least my opinion, is that it’s so different from what I and many Al fans were likely expecting. I don’t know about anyone else, but before I saw the video, I had a vision of the obvious video solution…something directly lampooning the celebrity charity music videos, the late night child-sponsorship ads, telethons, etc, with plenty of the normal sight gags one gets from a Weird Al video. It went in quite a different direction, and it took several views for me to really appreciate what was going on with it. The song itself isn’t a string of lines each with pop culture gags set to a familiar tune…the song itself, a charity song for well-to-do music artists, is the big joke in and of itself, moreso than any of the lyrics of the song itself (sure there are a few good smaller jokes thrown in throughout the song, but the whole situation of the song is really the main joke) making light of what is these days a serious discussion. I think the video is an excellent parallel to that. Because the song is not a gag-every-second yuk fest and the whole piece is greater than the sum of its parts, the video works as pretty well telling a story in an amusing way and similarly not packing in a bunch of unrelated gags.
Though it took me several viewings to see it for what it was, I still think it’s pretty successful. That being said, I’d still loved to have seen a video with a scene lifted from those child-sponsorship ads showing a Sally-Struthers-esque person in some impoverished area, with Lars Ulrich sitting in the background behind her, tattered clothes, begging for a hand out
September 7th, 2006 at 03:56 pm
I must say, I was dissapointed. I was expecting Al to get his music-celebrity friends (and for good measure, Dick Van Patten) together to do this one. With the “feud” with Coolio over, I was hoping to see maybe them together. Boy, was I let down. I hope the other five are better.
