Interview with an Animator
From the Hardford Advocate, Middletown Internet Animator David Lovelace Teams Up With Weird Al Yankovic
Here’s a great interview with David Lovelace, who is best know for creating the internet sensation Retarded Animal Babies, and one of the music video animators that Al enlisted for the new album. The article goes into the living room as well as the history of the goatee-sporting 36-year-old. Read the interview on how he didn’t believe it was really Al at first:
“Jay Levy sent me an e-mail asking if I’d be interested in doing some animation for Weird Al. I didn’t believe it at first. I wrote back and wrote, ‘F*** you, stop yanking my chain,’” Lovelace said. Levey persisted despite Lovelace’s disbelief. “He wrote me back and said he was for real.”
Oh yeah, there might be some language in there that’s not suitable for children. If you’re an innocent virtuous soul, the preceding paragraph should not have been read. Ah well, what can you do? Anyway, here’s my favorite quote from the article:
“I was confident that if I worked closely enough with him, he would somehow be able to produce a piece of animation that didn’t feature exposed genitalia,” Yankovic said.
You know, I think Al said something similar when he worked with Florence Henderson.

I’ve watched the Retarded Animal Babies, and it’s quite funny!!

Um… I’m not sure who posts on this blog, but on Adultswim.com, they have this thing called the Adult Swim fix. On it, episodes from later in the weekend are posted on Friday so that people who can’t atay up too late can simply watch that week’s schedule. Well, Robot Chicken’s new episode has appeared, and it’s hilarious. Not only is there a “Weasel Stomping Day” music video, but Al also plays a part in a skit afterwards… Just thought you should know.

Rusty, what is up with all the negativity about the animated videos? Why don’t you save it until you actually see it? Just because you didn’t like Bill Plympton’s video, doesn’t mean the others are gonna suck. Chill out!

As for Lovelace’s famous online toon, I believe it has its moments, but I think the video will turn out fairly amusing nevertheless. I have not been disappointed with all the new things Al has released up to this point; actually, I am quite surprised at all the mixed reviews he has received, especially concerning the animation projects.
