MySpace Scam Alert
If you’re on MySpace and you received an invite to a supposed “Free Airfare and Tickets to a Show in VEGAS!”… Do NOT respond to this! It is not from Al, there is no show in Vegas, and your email will be added to a spam list. You can tell by looking at the invite sender’s profile. It doesn’t go to Al’s MySpace page, but rather a private profile. Al himself just put up a bulletin about it:
Hey everybody,
Apparently there is some creep out there pretending to be me, and he has been spamming my MySpace friends list with offers to see me in Las Vegas if people sign up for a lot of garbage online.
Just to be clear, this is definitely NOT ME. This is an IMPOSTOR, and we are looking into having his MySpace account yanked, after which he will hopefully be flogged and tortured.
I’m very sorry if any of you were inconvenienced by this. Really, I don’t suck.
Thanks,
Al Yankovic
Apparently, Al’s not the only celebrity to be hit by this. Paris Hilton has also been the subject of this scam. Ah, at last she’s back in the news.
Anyway, remember to stay alert whenever you get something online that seems too good to be true, because it usually is.

I got that, as well as another titled “Have you heard White and Nerdy” or something like that from a different fake Al (which has apparently since been deleted) claiming to offer free ringtones, so if you get one of those, delete immediately before someone gets hurt.

This is good news and bad news.
Good News:
Al has now officially joined the ranks of people who other people want to pretend to be.
Bad News:
Those pretenders can hurt the uninformed people’s view of Al if they don’t realize that it isn’t really Al.
Confusing, huh?

Thankfully I am not stupid to give in to a stupid thing. I know it would be Al’s myspace because he is on MY list. If not I would ignore it.

How many idiots actually fell for it????

Al isn’t the only artist that the scammers have preyed on. Just today, I got 2 similar “free ticket” offers from bands on my friend list. Sadly, both bands are currently performing in Europe, so tickets to Vegas would be totally useless.
