Al sings eBay live at eBay Live!

Back in June 2003, Weird Al performed his song “eBay” (from Poodle Hat) for the ebay Live! special promotion and charity auction. I’ve only seen a couple pics from the event before. Now, thanks to Google Video, you can enjoy the performance as if you were there (and standing in the back of the room). Yay!

See Al and Taylor at the AMAs

Sweet! Access Hollywood has the video of Weird Al and Taylor Hicks meeting for the first time at the American Music Awards, joking around, having fun, etc…

Moments after telling Access he had recently been watching Taylor sing Al’s parody version in an online clip, the two bumped into each other on our slot on the American Music Awards red carpet.

“It’s great,” a shocked Weird Al told Access. “It’s like my doppelganger.”

Taylor confirmed in person, he loved Al’s version of his song.

Many thanks to Jeff for commenting about this.

Australian Tour Info

Looks like radio DJ/writer/TV VJ Maynard (same guy who did the Living Comedy God interview) has found some Weird Al concert dates in Australia.  Check out Maynard Online for the scoop and booking info.  No official word has been given on WeirdAl.com just yet, so you may want to wait a little before plunking down cold-hard cash.  But you can probably do a little “fantasy” tour-chasing in the meantime.

What’s up with VH1???

The picture below is probably what Al’s expression would be if he read this VH1.com Big in 06 Awards post, Weird Al and Tyler Hug, Make Up, where it says:

VH1 AlPeople also reported that Big Download nominee “Weird Al” Yankovic smoked a metaphorical peace-pipe with American Idol air-raid siren Tyler Hicks, who he spoofed on “Do I Creep You Out?” (Answer: Hell, yes.) The two made up with a hug and saying blatant lies like “Any time you get Weird Al to parody you, it’s an honor.”

Umm… huh??? First of all, how do you work in the pop culture biz and not realize the name is Taylor Hicks, not Tyler (misspelled in the post title AND in the article) and second, there was nothing in the original People magazine article to suggest that there was a feud to begin with:

One of the more intriguing couples of the evening were “Weird Al” Yankovic and Taylor Hicks, who shared a big hug before the show. Hicks made it clear he has no hard feelings about Yankovic’s parody song about him, titled “Do I Creep You Out?”

So the post author seemed to be stuck in 1996 (holy crap, TEN YEARS ago!!) with the whole Coolio mindset. And third… BLATANT LIES??? WTF??? VH1 is usually pro-Al, but whoever wrote this post apparently wasn’t.

*Shrug* Ah well, I dunno… to each their own I guess. The one good thing about the post was the nice big pic of Al you can get by clicking on it. So go add that to your collection and don’t forget to keep stuffing the ballot box for the Big Web Hit category.

Update: Well looky there, they fixed Taylor’s name now. And check out the update at the bottom of the post…

Thanks for your comments on this post. The person who wrote it has been locked in the VH1.com broom closet and forced to listen to Weird Al’s Greatest Hits on repeat.

Mwa ha ha!  Excellent work, my precious readers.  You did well.  You may now have an extra hour outside your box.  ;)

Al on Hot 99.5 Part 2

In the first post about Al on Hot 99.5 last month, we got to see Al make a Twinkie Weiner Sandwich live, on-the-air, during the “Hot Morning Mess with Mark and Kris”. In this second clip we see Al, filling in for Kris’s spot, reading off the Hollywood Hotsheet.

Weird Al on the Today Show (Australia)

Hope you all had a relatively stress-free Thanksgiving yesterday. Found this on Google Video while waiting for the tryptophan-induced coma to kick in… Al does a satellite interview with the Today Show in Australia. The host kept mispronouncing Al’s last name, but other than that, not too bad.

Here’s a great interview from the land down under. Listen to Maynard ask Al the secret to his success, the dog on the cover for “Straight Outta Lynwood”, family Christmas cards, the rumble with Atlantic Records, William Shatner, parodies, how he picks songs for his polkas, and much much more.

WEIRD AL PRESENTS AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD TONIGHT

A panda...for no reasonTonight on ABC, Al will present the award for Favorite Male Country Artist on the American Music Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. It will air tonight at 8pm Easterrn, 7pm Central, or check your local listings if you are stuck in some other time zone. This will be his seventh appearance on the American Music Awards. That’s pretty snazzy. Make sure you set your recording devices to capture this event on your recording media of choice.
The panda picture has nothing to do with this news. He just comes free with the posting. Now go run around and make some authentic panda noises to all your friends. They’ll be impressed. EEK! EEK!
