The Year in Review Part 2
And now, the epic conclusion to Part One: What has Weird Al been doing for the past six months?
Well in July, Al joins MySpace, news of the album’s release date is first revealed, and then the album cover is very, very slowly exposed at WeirdAl.com.
Then in August.
- News of which music artists are parodied breaks the stands.
- Al puts up the “Don’t Download This Song” on his MySpace page and ironically you could even download it.
- In an unprecedented move, Al puts out the word that he’s looking for some nearby fans to be in the music video. Whoa!!!
- The video to “Don’t Download This Song” premieres.
September is when things really start to get hopping!
- Al finishes his first big-budget live-action music video in seven years.
- Then the magical day happens when a little song called “White & Nerdy” is made available on Al’s MySpace, which Chamillionaire himself sings high praises for.
- Al does an autograph signing at Virgin Megastore in Hollywood and the video to Weasel Stomping Day airs on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken.
- The amazingly funny “White & Nerdy” video premieres! But not on AOL as expected, but on Al’s MySpace page.
- Al does countless interviews across the country and takes over the 80’s channel on XM radio.
- September 26th: “Straight Outta Lynwood” finally hits the stores!
In October, there’s more and more interviews, more specific reasons why Atlantic Records sucks, the album debuts at #10 as White & Nerdy scores Al his highest charting single in over 22 years, fans get their nerdy on thanks to Yahoo Music, and Al celebrates another birthday!
November, Al performs live on the Tonight Show, does even more countless interviews, makes the animated video to “Do I Creep You Out” with JibJab, announces that AL-TV will in fact happen, and presents at the American Music Awards with Chamillionaire.
And finally, here we are at December. But Al doesn’t slack off now, oh no. We get a great behind-the-scenes peek at making the video, makes an amazing performance at the Big in ‘06 show, gets nominated for TWO grammies, broadcasts AL-TV, announces his first tour dates overseas, and as shown in these last two posts has the best year ever!
Yep, that’s Al’s year in a nutshell. Whew, what an exciting ride, eh? Next year should be even more thrilling for fans across the globe as Al starts touring once again.
Have a very Happy New Year everybody!
