Al referenced on HBO show

Fellow reader Tim Farley sends me this

I noticed they slipped Weird Al into an episode of Flight of the Conchords this week. The episode is titled “Bowie” and features an extended “style spoof” of David Bowie called “Bowie’s in Space” (by the Conchords, not Al). Anyway, in the episode, their manager is trying to get them some promotion in the “novelty music” press. At one point, Bret is reading “Novelty Music Scene” magazine, and check out who is on the cover…

Al on Conchords

Check the schedule for next time “Bowie” (episode 6) airs

Of course, customers that have “HBO On Demand” can watch it any time.

Thanks for the tip, Tim!

Another ditty about Homer and Marge?

Hey, remember a few years ago when Al was on the Simpsons? It went something like this
YouTube Preview Image
Well, if E! Online can be believed, there may be another appearance..(or two?) next season.

Springfield is once again going Hollywood, with a slew of guest stars lining up to lend their voices to The Simpsons’ 19th season. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, the latter as a life coach, make their first ‘tooned out appearance on the show, while Frasier men Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce and John Mahoney reteam for an episode. Lionel Richie, Topher Grace, Weird Al Yankovic, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Dan Rather, Maya Rudolph, Placido Domingo and Weird Al Yankovic have also signed up for the yellow treatment.

Apparently they like him so much, they mentioned him twice, or the appearance will be extra weird.

In case you never saw the full episode of “Three Gays of the Condo”, it’s available on The Simpsons – Kiss and Tell: The Story of Their Love DVD set.

Extra thanks to UHJeff for reporting this.

Weird Al Autographs

Came across this short blog entry, Weird Al and the iPhone, which has a cool picture of a cool gadget with a cool autograph on it.

Which has me wondering, what’s the wackiest thing you had Al sign?  If you haven’t had the chance to meet him yet, what WOULD you like to have him sign?

For me, I guess my wackiest item would be the dollar bill.   After autographing it, Al says “Hopefully one day this will be worth something.”

I’m thinking of something orange…

In preparation of the five free shows at the Orange County Fair this week, Al busts out his mad interviewee skills with the OC Register.   It’s mostly straight forward questions like “Did you ever think you’d last this long?”, “How do you decide what to parody?”, and “What’s your favorite song?” and Al gives some straight forward answers (hence the adverb “Fairly” in the headline).  Then it ends with specific questions about Al and the fair.  Mmm… deep fried Twinkies…

Second week update and new T-shirt

We’re at the end of the second week of the July fund raising marathon and as of last count, we’ve raised $289.47 so far this month. Thanks to everyone who donated or bought some great merchandise so far.

This amount will be matched by The John D. and Catherine T. McHamster Foundation. For the entire month of July, they will donate $1 for every $1 donated to the Weird Al Star Fund, up to $1350, making a total of up to $2700, so if you want to make your donation count double, please get it in this month!

We’re also thrilled to add another great t-shirt design to our ever-expanding merchandise line. America, stop all this silly partisan bickering, and next year vote someone into the White House we all can agree on!

You can get this great design on a t-shirt through our website. $5.00 from the sale of each t-shirt sale goes to the Weird Al Star Fund. And don’t forget, if you order it before the end of July, that counts double!

World Series of Pop Culture

On last night’s episode of “World Series of Pop Culture” on VH1, they had a category titled “What a Weird Al-ful World”. The host read off some lyrics to one of Al’s parodies and the contestants had to name the original song. Hoo hoo, if only any of us had been on there, we would’ve smoked the competition easily. In fact, we’d probably get a little cocky about it, too. I know I’d be like “I can name that song in three words, Pat! I’ll ace any trivia quiz you bring on!”

Anyway, it’s episode 4 that has the teams named “Wocka Wocka”, “They’re Real and They’re Spectacular”, “El Chupacabra”, and “Fragilay”. Check when it’s airing next

(Thanks to Angela for reminding me)

No Reality Series

It’s been a while since I posted any interviews. Sorry about that folks.

According to Weird Al is a Regular Nerd, Al had been approached by some TV producers looking to do a reality series on him. Unfortunately, Al declined saying that his off-stage life probably wouldn’t quite as interesting. Ah well, even though us hardcore Al fans would LOVE to see more of him on TV, I was pretty tired of the whole “reality” fad from the beginning.

Of course, the new fad now is giving celebrities the role of hosting game shows. Which leads to the next interesting bit of the interview…

Another suggestion made by producers involved a type of game show in which teams of contestants would make parody videos every week.

“It sounds like a nightmare,” Yankovic says. “I couldn’t even go into all the reasons why that’s a bad idea.”

Ah, remember that game show William Shatner hosted that only ran for about four weeks? I never saw it, but I *DO* remember seeing a commercial that promoted it as, I kid you not, “Shatastic”. Wow, couldn’t have described it better myself.
