No release date yet, but they’re hoping to have it out by the end of 2010. Right now, they’re soliciting donations to help cover the cost of pressing the CDs. If you want to help, or see more about the project, you can do so here.

Progress report

Al’s got a new blog up. Go read it. He talks a little about the tour, the European dates, the possibility of a new album, the aborted Cartoon Network film, his children’s book, and some other super secret projects he’s working on. Hmm, actually that about sums it nicely, so I guess you don’t have to go read it now after all. Never mind.

Buddy Holly

Al has finally posted the long-coveted, ultra-rare, “Buddy Holly” snippet from “The Alternative Polka” on his YouTube. The story goes that at the very last minute, Weezer asked Al to pull the song from the polka. This was after all the artwork and liner notes for Bad Hair Day had been finalized, so, that’s why Weezer mysteriously appears in the liner notes for that album, as it was too late to edit their name out. It seems like there’s no bad blood between the two, because Weezer, later allowed Al to include “Beverly Hills” on “Polkarama!” for Straight Outta Lynwood.

Weird Al Star Fund update

Hey everyone,

It’s been a while since I gave an update, so I wanted to remind you all it’s that time again! Today was the deadline for getting applications in for the next batch of stars. We’re good there, we already sent in our updates last week, so now we just need your help sending good vibes to Hollywood. Cross your fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes, and whatever other body parts are flexible enough. Whatever it is that brings good luck!

I’ve always maintained that Al’s accomplishments more than make him worthy of having a star, so now it’s just up to the committee make the right call. Based on previous experience, they will likely meet over the next week or two, and we should have their decisions shortly after.

Next month is already going to be pretty exciting for Al and his fans, with his international tour kicking off on June 16, in Rehoboth, DE. How cool would it be if we got the thumbs up this year to coincide with the start of the tour? Now that would be awesome!

When I Grow Up

Al will have yet another thing besides Grammy Award winning musician, director, producer, and actor to add to his résumé — children’s book author. Al signed on with HarperCollins Children’s Books, to write his debut picture book, When I Grow Up.

Plot spoiiler warning:

With gleefully dizzying wordplay, an exuberant eight-year-old tells his patient teacher and amazed classmates about the astonishing variety of humorous and inventive careers he plans to pursue when he grows up.

It will be humorous and inventive, huh? It’s a departure, but I think he can pull it off! The book is currently scheduled to be released in March 2011, so, don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to finish reading Go, Dog. Go! before then.
