September Desktop Wallpaper

September desktop wallpaper
Last month, we asked you to get creative and create a calendar entry based on the cover art for Al’s new album,Straight Outta Lynwood, in stores on September 26th. There were a lot of great entries but ultimately only one could be chosen. Three time calendar submitter, Kristine Slipson gave us the cover on a nice artistic background that you should be PROUD to put on your computer RIGHT NOW. DO IT! Now in 1600×1200 goodness! After you are done admiring it, and pre-ordering your copy of Straight Outta Lynwood, why not see if you can create something for October. Hey, ya know it’s been a LONG while since anyone has submitted something of “Weird Al” in concert, a group shot with Jon, Jim, Steve and Ruben, and of course, October brings falling leaves and Halloween. There’s lots of ideas to work with and there will probably be some promotional material for the album that you might be able to get your greasy little paws on and work with. All you need are the rules for submitting a calendar. You’ll just need the October calendar and site logo. Due to the timing of the album, the entries deadline will again be extended. You can submit entries up until September 29th.  If you need a FREE image and photo editor that can save in Photoshop format, try using GIMP.

Late Entry for Desktop Calendar for June

June CalendarThe response for the monthly desktop calendar wallpaper contest in June was…well, pitiful! Apparently, you’re all too lazy or busy making your homemade Star Trek costumes to contribute anything creative for the rest of the community. No, that’s ok. We understand how selfish you are. It’s not like these things take a lot of time like just doing a frame grab and slapping on a calendar and logo or anything. Certainly the campaign to get Al a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame couldn’t have inspired you to create something along those lines. Oh no. Well, luckily, our good friend Aron comes to the rescue and quickly whipped up something inspired by the new song that Al lets us have. He’s nice like that, even if he thinks we’re all just hooligans. Maybe you can redeem yourselves by submitting an entry to the contest for July. What do you have to say to all that, Fartypants?

UPDATE 6/9: Oops!  The wrong calendar was originally put on.  It’s been corrected an now has the real dates on it.  Not like those lousy imposters.  Please re-snag it.  Thanks.

FREE NEW SONG!

PitifulYou’ve been hudled in the dark, drooling all over yourself, avoiding showers just waiting…WAITING for the new Weird Al album to come out. Well, we still don’t know when the album will be out, but the friendly folks over at WeirdAl.Com (which means probably Al himself, via Bermuda) has posted a song for you to download. Ab-so-freakin-loutly for FREE. That’s right. FREE. GO! GO! GO! NOW! NOW! NOW! GET IT! GET IT! GET IT! The official post looks like this:

HEY!
How would you like to download a brand new Weird Al song… for free? Yeah, we thought you might. Right-click here (ctrl-click for MAC) and select “save target as” (or “download linked file” for MAC). Don’t say we never gave you anything!

Hopefully that will be enough to whet your appetite to convince you to take a shower now. You’re pretty ripe. Oof. If you don’t get this RIGHT NOW, you’re pitiful!

UPDATE on 6/8: Wow, you people are insane! You’re completely taking down the server. Luckily, Al-oholics Anonymous and We’ve Got It All On UHF have been given authorization to mirror the song. If it’s too slow from WeirdAl.com then try here or here or here or here or here or here or even here.

MORE Video Clips!

screenshotSince the holidays are essentially upon us, it’s time to give back a little. That’s why Al-oholics Anonymous is giving you, not one…not two…not THREE…but FOUR…FOUR new video clips to the site! WHOA! Here’s what’s just been added to the archives:

  • Weird Al gets down and polkas with Frankie Yankovic (no relation) from the 1986 special “Weird Al’s Guide to the Grammys”.
  • Weird Al interviews R.E.M’s Michael Stipe from the Al-Tv in 1999.
  • Al presents the Sexiest Video award from the My Vh1 Awards back in 2000. Al used this during his Poodle Hat tour.
  • The collection of Holiday Survival Guide from this years “I Love the Holidays” special on VH1.

WOW! That’s great! And there may even be a few MORE clips added before the end of the year. Happy Holidays!

Oh, and in case you missed Al’s voice over appearances on “The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy” the episode Nigel Planter and the Chamber Pot of Secrets will air on Wednesday morning at 8:00AM EST and One Crazy Summoner will air on Sunday Dec 4th at 2:30pm EST. Both will air on Cartoon Network and as always, check your local listings before you go setting your Tivo or VCR.

November Desktop Calendar

November DesktopOh NO! It’s NOvember! That means it’s time for another desktop calendar. This months calendar comes to us from Judith Grossinger, a first time submitter. If she can submit something and get her entry picked then you can too…maybe…if it’s good, and doesn’t look like that piece of cheese that fell behind the refrigerator last month that you forgot about and now it’s all green with bits of moldy brown and orange covered in hair and bits of Honeycombs that also fell back there too and it’s so disgusting that even the Ed Bagley Jr. clone living in your walls wouldnt touch it…wow, you’re such a slob! If you have an idea that’s better than that, make it and send it on in for December.

Note: December includes several holidays, and you may be thinking about adding elements of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanaza, Pearl Harbor Day, Boxing Day or Terri Garr’s birthday. Please try to refrain from this. Please keep you creations as non-religious and Terri Garr free as possible. They mostly don’t have anything to do with Al. You ARE free use images or depictions that reference his two holiday songs, The Night Santa Went Crazy or Christmas At Ground Zero. If you have questions, please ask first.

October Desktop Calendar

September DesktopThe year just marches on and with it, comes October. This month Kristine Slipson provides another desktop calendar with a nice fall and Halloween theme. In case you can’t quite make it out, Al is performing Dog Eat Dog from Polka Party and behind the calendar is Darth Rubén. Of course, the 23rd is highlighted to remind you of Al’s birthday…which just coincidentally happens to be on the 23rd. Wow. Wacky! Do you want the fame, prestige, and free ham* that you get by having one of your “Weird Al” inspired desktop wallpapers make it on to this site? It’s really easy. Just read the rules and send it in for the monthly contest. It’s just that easy.

*=free ham not included
