…and sadly, Al did not make the list. Al is having a great 2011 so far. We’re around halfway in and already there’s a new album, new book, and new music video out, and new tour on the horizon. It would have been a nice feather in his cap, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be this year.
We wholeheartedly believe Al deserves a spot on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. We will be nominating Al once again next year, and we will continue to do all we can until Al gets his well-deserved star!
For a full list of Walk Of Fame recipients for 2012, check out this link.

Hey, I hope everyone is doing well. I thought I’d give you an update on a few things going on recently since I haven’t posted here in a while.
1. We’ve nominated Al once again for 2012! The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is expected to make their decision in June. So cross your fingers, uvula, and pancreas that this is Al’s year.
2. Speaking of, if you haven’t heard by now, at the end of last year, the Hollywood Walk of Fame unexpectedly raised their price to $30,000. That leaves us just over $5,000 short again. Please visit our donation page at www.weirdalstar.com if you can help.
3. We finally got ourselves a Facebook page. So please come over to www.facebook.com/weirdalstar and give us a like, and share with your friends.
4. There’s a great brand new Weird Al tribute album coming out any day now. The album contains over an hour of amazing Weird Al tribute songs as performed by people like MC Frontalot, Shael Riley, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, mc chris, Steve Goodie, Al’s Band, MC Lars and many, many others. You can preorder and get more details over at www.weirdaltribute.com. A portion of their sales are being donated to the Weird Al Star Fund.
5. And speaking of tributes, there another Weird Al Star Fund benefit show planned for July 13 at 8 PM at diPiazza in Long Beach, CA. Raymond & Scum, Tony Goldmark, Throwing Toasters, Dino-Mike, and TV’s Kyle will be performing. More details can be found at www.weirdalstar.com/tributeshow2011.html. A portion of their ticket sales are being donated to the Weird Al Star Fund as well.
That should keep you guys busy until next update. I’ll be in touch if any other big news breaks. Enjoy the ALPOCALYPSE on June 21!

Austin Aeschliman of Rycehat and Jace McLain of Nuclear Bubble Wrap are working on new Weird Al Tribute Album called “Twenty-Six and a Half.” They’ve already got over 20 deeeeeemented artists signed up to contribute, and here’s the cool part…. 40% of all sales are going to the Weird Al Star Fund!!
No release date yet, but they’re hoping to have it out by the end of 2010. Right now, they’re soliciting donations to help cover the cost of pressing the CDs. If you want to help, or see more about the project, you can do so here.

Hey everyone,
It’s been a while since I gave an update, so I wanted to remind you all it’s that time again! Today was the deadline for getting applications in for the next batch of stars. We’re good there, we already sent in our updates last week, so now we just need your help sending good vibes to Hollywood. Cross your fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes, and whatever other body parts are flexible enough. Whatever it is that brings good luck!
I’ve always maintained that Al’s accomplishments more than make him worthy of having a star, so now it’s just up to the committee make the right call. Based on previous experience, they will likely meet over the next week or two, and we should have their decisions shortly after.
Next month is already going to be pretty exciting for Al and his fans, with his international tour kicking off on June 16, in Rehoboth, DE. How cool would it be if we got the thumbs up this year to coincide with the start of the tour? Now that would be awesome!

I know it’s been kind of quiet on the Weird Al Star Fund lately, but I just wanted to let everyone know that, yesterday, our application extension, along with a few updates on Al’s recent and future projects, was hand-delivered to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber is expected to release their list of new stars for 2010 some time in June. When I hear the news, I’ll keep everyone updated.
GOOD LUCK AL!
June 19, 2008
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce published their list of recipients for stars in 2009 earlier today, and once again, Al was not selected among the 25 announced celebrities. It baffles me how they can continuously overlook the best-selling musical comedy recording artist in history, at what is arguably the height of his career.
Recipients included Hugh Jackman, Ben Kingsley, The Village People, Tinkerbell, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey Jr., Tim Burton, Leslie Caron, Charles Durning, Ralph Fiennes, William Petersen, Kyra Sedgwick, John Stamos, Mark Burnett, Chuck Lorre, Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds, Dave Koz, The Miracles, Doug Morris, Rush, Shakira, KFI radio personality Bill Handel and KCRW host Harry Shearer.
This is not the news we were all hoping for, but it’s not over. We will continue to do everything we can to ensure Al eventually gets his well-deserved star, and of course, we will resubmit the application again next year. Hopefully the Chamber will then correct their mistake.
But let’s end this update on some upbeat news — the summer tour kicks off in a little over a week! There are 45 scheduled dates in North America. If you get the opportunity to attend one near you, it’s an adventure you don’t want to miss! Also, Al has been hinting in recent interviews that there are some pretty exciting projects in the works. I would expect we’ll hear more about them as the year goes on. 2008 once again, is shaping up to be another great year to be an Al fan!

This calendar was once again another community project featuring photos from a few of your fellow Weird Al fans who have managed to snag some sweet shots over the past year on the Straight Outta Lynwood tour. There’s so many great pictures out there that this just scratches the surface of what’s available, but we hope you enjoy it and display it proudly in your home, office, shack in the woods, or wherever you may need to be reminded of what month it is.

The American Gladiators have challenged the Weird Al Star Fund! And it’s a challenge we’re more than happy to take on! American Gladiators is prepared to make a donation of ten dollars per person for every person we bring to their audience! The show tapes at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA. If you are from the Los Angeles area, we need YOU to convince your parents, siblings, friends, teachers, distant cousins… whoever. As long as they can fill up a seat, American Gladiators will count them toward the donation for the Star Fund!
The date is Saturday, December 8, 2007. You will be meeting at the studio at 10:00 a.m., assembling with the rest of the Star Fund people long enough for an audience worker to get a headcount, and then enjoying the show for a few hours. A snack will be provided, but it won’t be a full meal so plan accordingly. The show is not violent, but there is a minimum age requirement of nine years old. To sign up, or for more specifics, please contact the Star Fund’s treasurer, Vikki DeVries at vikki@weirdalstar.com
The Star Fund wants to thanks Jon “TMBJon” Katz for coming up with this fun challenge. If you would like to attend a taping of American Gladiators on a different date, or if you have any additional questions, feel free to email him directly at jonkatz3@gmail.com. If you have any ideas for other fundraising events, please let us know at www.WeirdAlStar.com

UPDATE Here is more information for the December 8 American Gladiators event:
Sony Pictures Studios is located on Overland Ave between Culver and Washington (can’t miss it). Drive through the front gate and pull into the parking garage on the right. Then you will go down to the floor level of the garage where there will be an audience holding area. Please check in with Vikki so that she knows the whole group has arrived.
Sorry–yet another time change: Arrive at 10:00 AM and the taping will begin at 11:00. We will be finished at 5:00 PM. There is another taping immediately following that you are welcome to stay for.
Wear darker clothing, or at least with no bright logos, etc. that will show. No cameras or cell phones–they will send you back to the car with them, so best not to bring them in.
