Cafepress, which handles most of the merchandise for Weird Al Star Fund, is making some changes this week that I wanted to point out before it’s too late for you guys to take advantage of.
They are going to raise their base price by $3 on items that have second-side printing (i.e. shirts with print on the back, etc.), so if you want to save a few bucks, make sure you buy those items now!
Also, on or around August 28, all calendars will be transitioning from 2007 dates to 2008 dates, so this is the last week to pick up a calendar with 2007 dates.

We’re at the end of the second week of the July fund raising marathon and as of last count, we’ve raised $289.47 so far this month. Thanks to everyone who donated or bought some great merchandise so far.
This amount will be matched by The John D. and Catherine T. McHamster Foundation. For the entire month of July, they will donate $1 for every $1 donated to the Weird Al Star Fund, up to $1350, making a total of up to $2700, so if you want to make your donation count double, please get it in this month!
We’re also thrilled to add another great t-shirt design to our ever-expanding merchandise line. America, stop all this silly partisan bickering, and next year vote someone into the White House we all can agree on!

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has made their decision. Sadly 2008 won’t be Al’s year.  I think it’s a horrible oversight. When you look at the list of nominees, it’s clear to me that Al’s name deserves to be there. If we find a positive in this, there is much more variety in the music category this year, unlike last year, where it was very skewed towards country. At least we now know that the Committee is open to considering every genre of music. And when it comes to novelty music, no one even comes close to Al.
For music the five recipients include: George Harrison (posthumous), Christina Aguilera, Brooks and Dunn, Ricky Martin and Red Hot Chili Peppers. For a complete list of this year’s nominees, please see here.
Once again, we’ll be lobbying for Al to be a part of the class of 2009. The Hollywood Chamber hasn’t heard the last from us. We knew it might take a few years coming into this, and now we’re determined more than ever to get Al his star!

It’s the last day of May, and to quote Stanley Spadowski in UHF, “I know how you all probably like to wait until the last minute, well this is it! This IS the last minute!!!” If you haven’t sent in your donation yet, we’re waiting for it!!
Weird Al Star Fund‘s end of May total is $18,290.11. (That doesn’t include any donations received today.) While we fell short of our goal of $25,000, it’s still quite an impressive number, considering we were totally surprised when the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce substantially increased the price only last February. Thanks to everyone who pulled together and raised money so quickly one way or another. Whether you were a first time contributor, or reached into your pockets, two, three, or more times, please give yourself a round of applause and our greatest appreciation. 
You may be asking what’s in store, now that June is practically upon us? First off, don’t stop or slow your fund raising efforts at all!! It’s not too late to raise the money! It’s very important to keep doing the good work you’ve all done so far!
We’ll have some colorful clothing, and a few pieces of new unique jewelry for sale on the website or eBay soon. Plus, we have some other treats in store for later in June or July. And don’t forget to pick up some super cool merchandise at our merchandise shop. There’s something there for everyone! (And if there isn’t, let us know, and we’ll make it for you!)
Don’t forget, concert season is in full swing in the U.S. now, and soon Canada, so if you’re going to one, have a blast! And what better place is there to talk up the star fund to whoever will listen?

There’s only one week left in May! And that means that the Weird Al Star Fund has only one short week left before we need to make a final decision on what to do with Al’s application this year for his star on Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame!
If you haven’t donated to the Weird Al Star Fund yet, go there now and do so! Any amount is appreciated, $5, $10, $20, anything! We accept Paypal, check, or money order. Or, if donations aren’t your thing and you need to have something to show for it, you can go to the Star Fund’s Cafepress store and order some really cool authorized, licensed Weird Al merchandise! Choose from t-shirts, mousepads, mugs, stickers, calendars, and other neat Al stuff available nowhere else.
We’re still waiting to hear from many of you who pledged to raise at least $100 by the end of May. if you’re planning on mailing your pledge, keep in mind that the U.S. post office is closed this coming Monday for Memorial Day, so if you think your pledge might not make it to us in time, please send me or Vikki a note after you mail it, so we know to count it. Remember, even if you didn’t fully reach your goal, every dollar counts!
Now’s the time to help out the cause and help get Al a star!
